MLA for Halifax Citadel--Sable Island

Lisa Lachance is the MLA for Halifax Citadel–Sable Island. They are the critic for 2SLGBTQ+ Affairs, L’nu Affairs, Mental Health and Addictions, Agriculture, Acadian Affairs, Advanced Education, Communications Nova Scotia, and Finance. Lisa was first elected to the House of Assembly in 2021.

Having founded consulting firm Wisdom2Action and led its transition from government-supported network to independent social enterprise, Lisa has a long-standing track record as a prolific community engager. They started their career in the public sector, advocating for the rights of children and youth at an international level. Lisa is now ready to hone these skills even further as an advocate for all residents of Halifax Citadel–Sable Island.

Lisa is believed to be the first genderqueer MLA elected to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly, and uses they/them pronouns. Lisa and partner Heather were one of the first couples married in Canada upon the legalization of samesex marriage in 2003. They have two children; Jason, 18, and Keira, 15, and are longtime residents of Halifax/Kjipuktuk.

Lisa holds a BA with Honours in International Development Studies and a Masters of Public Administration, both from Dalhousie University. They are still a student of Dalhousie, completing their PhD in health on integrating community into youth-centred mental health planning.

Lisa’s constituency is located in Mi’kma’ki, the unceded ancestral territory of the L’nu people.
