How W2A is working towards Truth and Reconciliation

We are holding the families and communities of the 215 children who were found at the site of the Kamloops Residential School in our hearts. We mourn their deaths and loss of so many past, present and future from colonialism in Canada. We hold space for their grief.

It is widely known that even though the last residential school closed in 1996, the practice of forcibly removing Indigenous people from their communities is an ongoing practice in Canada through incarceration and the child welfare system. We acknowledge that reconciliation and reparation is an ongoing commitment that requires continuous work. Wisdom 2 Action embeds these actions into our work in the following ways:

The First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada has the following immediate actions to take. We are going to court in 2 weeks to deal with Canada’s two appeals: 1) to avoid paying  40K to children who were discriminated against per inequitable federal child welfare funding and failure to implement Jordan’s Principle and 2) Canada wants to overturn a CHRT order that it ensure First Nations children off reserve without Indian Act status can access Jordan’s Principle.  You can participate in an information session on June 11, 2021 in advance of the hearings that will be webcast by the Federal Court Feb 14-18, 2021.
