About the Project:

Wisdom2Action (W2A) is supporting Momentum on this project, and also in the selection of YAC members. Momentum and Wisdom2Action are working with organizations in Ghana and Malawi to deliver a two year project that aims to support 2SLGBTQIA+ youth in Canada, Ghana and Malawi to address gender-based violence (GBV) through artistic expression and activism. 
More specifically, the project aims to:
  • Increase the knowledge and skills of 2SLGBTQIA+ young people to address and prevent GBV through artistic expression.
  • Improve relationships between LGBTQIA+ youth and their communities in Ghana, Canada and Malawi.
  • Increased collaboration between organizations in the LGBTQIA+ movements in Ghana, Canada and Malawi.

About the Youth Advisory Council:

As part of this project, W2A and Momentum will be designing and hosting a youth summit in Toronto that will bring together youth from Ghana and Malawi to focus on how to prevent and address GBV against 2SLGBTQIA+ youth through arts-based activism.

As part of this project, W2A is looking for 2SLGBTQ+ young people with diverse lived experiences to join a Youth Advisory Council (YAC). The YAC will assist in the design and implementation of the summit in Toronto and may also attend a youth summit hosted in Malawi (at no cost to the YAC members). For the YAC we are specifically seeking people who are:
  • Aged 18-24
  • Identify as 2SLGBTQIA+
  • Have experience with 2SLGBTQIA+ arts based activism
  • Are located in the greater Toronto area (York, Halton, Peel, Durham, Toronto)
  • Are willing to travel to Malawi to attend the Malawi youth summit (expected to take place at some point between December 2025 and June 2026)

If you fit the above description we encourage you to apply. We welcome applications from Black, Indigenous, racialized, diverse religious and/or socio-economic backgrounds, newcomer, disabled, 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and/or other individuals with intersecting marginalized identities. 

Responsibilities of the Youth Advisory Council 

If selected for the YAC, you will be expected to:

  • Attend a monthly 1-2 hour virtual YAC meeting for the duration of the project (until June 2026)
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of the Canadian youth summit
  • Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of the project
  • Be willing and able to attend the Malawi youth summit
  • Support the promotion of the Canadian youth summit
