Fierté Canada Pride - CSF Survey

Welcome to the Fierte Canada Pride (FCP) survey about the Community Saftey Fund (CSF).

For the past four years, FCP has managed the fund and provided grants to Pride events across the country with funding from Women and Gender Equality Canada. The core level of funding has not been increased, though the costs of Pride events is rising.

FCP hired Wisdom2Action, a queer-owned consulting firm, to conduct a review of the Fund and assess the needs of the community going forward.

By completeing this survey you will help FCP assess the impact of the CSF grants, and help us make the case for the grants to continue. Everyone who participates in the survey will be entered into a random draw to win one of five honorarium of $25. You must provide an email address and have a bank account that can receive Canadian funds to be eligible for the draw.

You will also be given the option to express interest in being interviewed by the Wisdom2Action team about the impact the grant had on your community’s Pride event. More details on the interviews are included at the end of the survey.

Thank you for your support over the past four years as FCP has worked to address our community’s safety concerns. We hope to convince the federal government to continue providing safety funding for Pride events across Canada.

Use of survey data: The survey is being hosted by Wisdom2Action, a queer-owned, consulting company based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The data will be maintained on W2A’s secure servers in Canada. The data will be anonymized to protect your identity. Your identity will not be shared with Fierte Canada Pride.

Cost pressures at Pride events

We've heard from Pride events that the costs of delivering parades, events, and cultural programming is rising rapidely each year. The requests being made of the Community Safety Fund seem to increase each year. We'd like to hear from you about the cost pressures you are facing.

Safety Issues at Pride events

Many Pride events report growing threats or security concerns. We'd like to hear from you about the security and safety issues you've had over the past three years at your Pride events.

How should applications to the fund be assessed?

Currently, grants from the Fund are made a on a first-come, first-serve basis. While this system has worked well for the past four years, FCP would like to strengthen the application process by developping a set of metrics to assess the grant applications. We'd like to hear from you about what kind of metrics should be used to assess the applications going forward.

Accessibility at Pride events

In many of the reports we received about the use of the grants, Pride events identified acesssibility issues as a growing concern. It has been suggested that FCP approach the federal government about providing some additional funding to address these accessibility concerns. We want to know what you think about this issue and what your Pride events do to address it.
