Hawthorne Armstrong has recently joined the Wisdom2Action team through the International Youth Internship Program (IYIP), which is funded by Global Affairs Canada and managed by Atlantic Council for International Cooperation (ACIC) and Marine Institute / Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador (MUN). They are based in Windsor, Ontario on the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations — the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi peoples, as well as many others. They are Haudenosaunee, specifically Onyota’a:ka, from the Oneida Nation of the Thames.
Hawthorne has a Certificate in Human Services from Fanshawe College in London, Ontario, a Diploma in Child and Youth Care from Saint Claire College in Windsor, Ontario, and a Bachelor in Equity, Diversity and Human Rights from Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario.
Hawthorne isn’t new to Wisdom2Action; they were a member of the Youth Advisory Council on the Safer Access for Everyone in the Rainbow (SAFER) project. In the past, he has worked as a youth worker at Windsor Youth Centre, a drop in centre for youth experiencing homelessness and is currently working in transitional housing, helping young men find employment and housing opportunities.
